Afropithecus Turkanensis.
Dating from around 17 million years ago during the Miocene period this is one of the earliest hominidae. This branch, Afropithecidae, split off from the branch that would eventually form us around 28 million years ago.
This particular specimen, KNMWK 16999, was discovered in 1986 at Kalodirr, Turkana by Dr. Richard Leakey & Dr Meave Leakey.
It's teeth and the thickness of the enamel suggest that it's diet consisted largely of hard fruits.
